Choosing a Wedding Guest Outfit for a Vintage Wedding
For a guest, picking an outfit for a vintage themed wedding can be one of those occasions that fills you with dread. What do you pick? Will it look too cheesy or OTT? What if you don’t even like the vintage look?
Firstly, don’t panic! There are lots of ways to dress for a themed wedding to ensure you still look like you and are at ease with your outfit choice. Selecting a vintage style that’ll keep things cool and classy whilst retaining a vintage vibe is key.
To help you get it right, I’ve put together some top tips and ideas for wedding guest outfits for a vintage wedding…
Dress for Your Personality
It’s possible to reflect your character, the theme of the wedding and your own individual style all in one go. Not only will you feel more comfortable, you’ll look more confident and feel great too.
The boho-luxe look is an ideal choice when attending a summer wedding, achieved simply with the help of sparkly accessories and 70’s styling. A fabulous floral maxi dress will feel fantastic on a boiling hot day, and will look exquisitely elegant with a killer pair of stilettos, statement earrings and a leather clutch bag.
Go for a Shape That Will Suit You
Whether you’re a guest at a glitzy, glamorous 1920s wedding or a rockabilly fifties-esque occasion, there will be a silhouette or shape that will flatter your figure.
Not all flapper dresses need to be drop-waist to look authentic and reminiscent of the jazz age. If you have a pear-shaped figure go for a sequinned shimmery dress that has extra embellishment on the upper half to balance out your shape effectively.
The same goes when it comes to choosing a 1950s dress. If you’re lucky enough to be a classic hourglass or have a fuller figure then the fit and flair style looks fantastic. A wiggle dress with a pencil skirt would work wonders for a boyish figure.
Don’t Go Fancy Dress
There’s nothing like getting into the swing of a 1920s wedding and adorning yourself with dazzling, dramatic accessories, but make sure your not compromising on style.
Although fancy dress is fun, the chances are you won’t wear that ludicrously large feather again and that nylon costume is unlikely to look glamorous. Instead, opt for a beautifully beaded number that will become a wardrobe staple for every special occasion or party.
Colour is key too, so go for a shade which will bring any nostalgic look up to date. Team with sparkling, art deco accessories and a funky flapper headband, reminiscent of the roaring twenties, to nail flapper girl styling.
Getting a vintage outfit right can be tricky, but the results are well worth the effort. Nothing says romance more than a retro dress or vintage piece of jewellery, which makes it ideal for wedding season. I say go traditional with a twist to transform yourself into the best dressed guest.
